Congratulations to Wade Dickens for winning the Rookie's Double. Last weekend 20/10/2019 he won the Singles and this weekend he won the Rookie's Pairs with partner Phil Metcalf. The final was against Chris Smith and Noel Smith of Bateau Bay who had the running of the first 7 ends to lead 8 to 4. But in a withering display of draw bowls Phil and particularly Wade took 10 points in the next 3 ends (a 5 then a 2, then a 3). Despite playing some quite good bowls Chris and Noel suddenly found themselves 6 down with 2 ends to play as Rookies Pairs is played only over 12 ends.
Thankfully the very windy conditions on the Saturday abated for the semi-finals and finals on the Sunday. Our thanks are extended to Umina Beach Club for the excellence of their hosting of the event and in particular Mark Speerin and Allan Rhodes for their management of the event.
Phil and Wade will contest the State Final of the Rookies Pairs to be conducted on Saturday 23rd November 2019 at Raymond Terrace and Wade will contest the Singles on the Sunday.
