Weather Does not Stop Enjoyment of Patrons Day

On Bowls Central Coast's Patron's Day the final of Patron's Graded Pairs is contested.  This event involves qualifying events held at the players' club culminating in the final which for 2022 was held at The Entrance's Greenkeepers Shed on Saturday 17th December 2022.

Patron's Day is not conducted for elite bowlers. With a minimum of 11 points it is only players from pennants grades 4 to 7 who can contest the patron's graded pairs.  It is a fun day and with The Entrance waiving green fees, BCC paying for lunch and Creightons kindly providing prize money, it is a fee day for the finalists.

This year's finalists were:

Unfortunately, at The Entrance the weather was not kind and it rained.  At the end of the first game all the players were drenched.  In the interests of health and safety the final was stopped particularly as most participants were in their 70's and 80's.   But, that did not stop the fun.  We ate the excellent hamburgers and sweet potato chips provided for lunch and had a good chinwag until finally it was decided that further play was impossible.

Creighton's were thanked for sponsoring the day providing the prizemoney which was awarded to the finalists.  Creighton's are excellent sponsors of lawn bowls at Club, Zone and Ladies District level and provide an excellent and caring service to the community.   We are very pleased to be associated with them.

The facilities at The Entrance in the Greenkeeper's Shed were more than adequate, serving the 50 or so people sheltering under cover without any difficulty.  We look forward to how good it will be when the club house is rebuilt.

The players really enjoyed the day despite the lack of bowls.  They appreciated that their health and safety was the most important factor in the delivery of the event.

Particular thanks are extended to Chairman of Match Garry Ellis who prepared the draw and followed up with players on their availability.  Also to Treasurer Ron Alchin who handled the finances on the day.
