Record Number of Veterans at 2020 Veterans Day

A record total of 196 senior bowlers attended Veteran's day today (2/3/2020) at 3 Clubs; Toukley District for Northan Clubs, Everglades for Southern Clubs and Terrigal for Clubs from the Center of the Zone.   60 veterans attended Everglades, 66 were at Toukley District and an unprecedented 70 were at Terrigal.

The Veterans were treated to lunch and a free game of bowls.  A Badge was presented to Veterans (Over 70) and Super Veterans (Over 75), unless they had already received one at a previous Veterans Day.  However at Everglades with the temperature at 38 degrees the game was called off.   It did not stop the veterans from enjoying the day.

Our thanks are extended to Creighton's for their financial support of the days at each of the venues.  To the Clubs for hosting the days and also assisting us financially so that with the Creighton's contribution we could make the day a completely free day for the veterans.  Also to Bowls NSW who provided the 140 badges which were presented to the Veteran's.   Without their financial assistance Veteran's Days would not be possible.

The oldest bowlers who attended Toukley District were Trevor Hitchens from Munmorah aged 86 and Arthur Halligan from Wyong aged 85.

At Everglades the oldest two bowlers were 90  year old Victor McCutcheon (Ettalong) and Basil Smith of Evergaldes who is 85.

Also noteworthy at Everglades was the first ever Lady Bowler to attend veterans day in Janette Pickering of Woy Woy who was presented with a Super Verteran's Badge.

However at Terrigal the oldest bowlers were George FOX (Terrigal) 90  and John EDWARDS (Terrigal) 91, making John the oldest Veteran of the Day across all three venues.
